Can You Wear Colored Contacts With Eye Allergies?
Seasonal allergies and contact lenses are not friends. Pollen floating straight into your eye while a lens holds it in place against your cornea. Your eyes water, itch, and you are tempted to rub them, which moves the lens around and grinds allergens deeper into your eye.
Here is how to manage colored contacts during allergy season without giving up on either.
Start With Allergy Eye Drops
Use antihistamine eye drops before inserting your lenses. Wait at least ten minutes for the drops to absorb. This creates a barrier that reduces the allergic reaction before the lens goes in. If your eyes are already red and watery, do not insert lenses at all that day. Give your eyes a break.
Switch to Daily Disposables Temporarily
During peak allergy season, switching to daily disposables eliminates the overnight storage problem entirely. You start every day with a sterile fresh lens, no bacteria or allergens accumulated overnight. Our daily vs monthly guide covers when switching makes more sense.
Clean Your Lenses More Frequently
Allergens stick to the lens surface during the day. Rubbing the lens with fresh solution after removal removes those allergens before they sit in the case overnight. If you normally skip the rub step, allergy season is the time to add it back. Ten seconds of rubbing removes what soaking alone leaves behind.
If symptoms persist with daily wear, take a break. Your eyes need to recover. Our lenses will still be there next week. Browse comfortable colored contacts.
